Arm Disability after Breast Cancer - DABC Study (2004-2014)

dabc-study-infographic-smallMany Canadian breast cancer survivors will, unfortunately, experience arm problems after treatment. Pain, range of motion restrictions and lymphedema may all be disabling. It is therefore critical to examine the impact of these challenges.

This research team was assembled to examine the experiences of 740 breast cancer survivors at 4 sites (Fredericton/Saint John, Montreal, Winnipeg and Surrey) across Canada over a 5 year time period, looking at the ways in which arm problems manifest, and the extent to which they may be disabling.

The study has explored disability in the domains of work, labour, family and leisure activities at various time points following breast cancer surgery. The study has provided data to inform over 10 publications, and various knowledge translation initiatives, such as the infographic on the right.
