Chad Hammond began his postdoctoral fellow with Dr. Thomas in January 2014. Dr. Hammond completed a PhD in Culture, Health, and Human Development along with a Double Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Philosophy at the University of Saskatchewan.


Dr. Hammond's program of research centres around stories, metaphors, and other ways of talking about chronic and advanced illness. He studied autobiographies of terminally ill cancer patients for his undergraduate Honour's thesis, and spent his time in graduate studies learning about how younger and older adults make sense of life with cancer. In his postdoctoral studies, Dr. Hammond is applying his cultural perspective to understanding cancer care and survivorship among First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, using arts-based methods like photography, journaling, and storytelling.
