A physiotherapist and a PhD candidate at the University of Ottawa School of Rehabilitation Sciences, Shirin Shallwani is interested in exploring leisure physical activity in people with advanced cancer. Shirin is already an accomplished researcher at this early stage of her career. She has published in a number of journals, including: Physiotherapy Canada; Current Oncology; Palliative and Supportive Care; Psycho-Oncology; and Supportive Care in Cancer. Shirin has also presented at several conferences including: Canadian Physiotherapy Association Congress; National Lymphedema Conference; Canadian Cancer Research Conference; and International Conference on Physical Therapy in Oncology.
Shirin is currently recruiting Canadian adults diagnosed with stage 4 / metastatic cancer to better understand their perspectives and experiences related to leisure physical activity. Her PhD research will help raise awareness about the experiences of people with advanced cancer and inform future clinical programs and research priorities in cancer.
